In the Classroom programs partner with several Grand Rapids schools to promote music education opportunities for students at no cost to the schools or participants. These programs engage students by fostering teamwork and community through playing music together, ignite curiosity by exploring musical styles, build confidence through music performance, and support an appreciation for the arts by experiencing the magic of music.
This program provides 50 to 60 Sibley and Dickinson Elementary students with free beginning strings instruction onsite at their school three times a week throughout the school year. SCMC provides the instruments for the program, and students can take them home to practice while participating. Strings to Schools culminates by celebrating these young musicians with a concert attended by their friends and family hosted in SCMC’s Royce Auditorium. There is no cost for Strings to Schools participants or schools; this program is entirely subsidized by contributed revenue.
We are excited to invite your school to participate in SCMC’s innovative assembly program.
This program will feature two separate in-school, 30-minute educational music assemblies for 2nd to 5th graders. One will feature folk music and the other will feature jazz. After each school has had their assembly visit, we will bus students to a live performance by both the folk and jazz groups.
